SHUUKKI #12 - 2023-12-03 (日)

This is a regular series within TOKYO BOUND blog to share short weekly updates of my journey.

Highlight of my week?

Meeting old friends from Singapore, making new friends from school and finding out I am not alone in this language learning journey.

Hearing about Thai and Taiwan keyboards. Always have so much respect for my classmates who use English (2nd language) to ask questions about Japanese (3rd/nth language).

What have I learnt this week?

I am slower than my peers so I do need additional time to revise out of class, and that helps me immensely than to just submit the work and call it a day.

First time entering a card store at Shimokitazawa.

What could I have done better?

Head out to different parts of Tokyo or Japan more and learn from talking and experiencing than to stick to the room. Also realised that it can be very comfortable to just stick with the English/Chinese speaking community and not have the exposure to the language.

First time experiencing a loop train to Odaiba.

What am I grateful for this week?

School aside, I am slowly making friends with my classmates, and learning about their lives before Tokyo. It is interesting how much worldview I am lacking while speaking to my classmates from Thailand, Taiwan, Macau, Seattle, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, etc. It just highlights to me there’s really a larger world than my school.
